Chateau Haut Brion, 1970

Chateau Haut Brion, 1970

Pessac Leognan 1er Grand Cru Classe MAGNUM

This 1970 Haut Brion from the excellent 1970 vintage has received excellent reviews from wine critics.

*** 90-92 points - Vino Periodical ***
Reviews: "Dark-brown rim. Brown sugar, olives and leather nose. Quite rich for 1970. Balanced and very smooth palate. Coffee & sweet red fruits. Fully mature, a highly enjoyable wine (and far cheaper than Latour.) Somewhat nether-rated past others. So again chez Alex Hunt in November 2005. Although a niggling musty at first, this wine grows and grows on you. A cool, blackberry leaf, cranberry olfactory organ with lots of cedar and pine is followed by a tannic, almost rustic, broad-shouldered palate with cedary, tobacco-infused fruit.

92 Points Vino Spectator

*** 92 Points Wine Spectator ***
I drank a lot of this in Paris when I lived there in the mid-1980s. And I had a bottle this summer equally well. Ever outstanding. Shows intense aromas of prune and licorice. Total, velvety and long. This is a beautiful Bordeaux. (JS, Web Only-2007)

**** 91 Points Robert Parker ****
The 1970 is an old style Lynch Bages with plenty of dry tannin in the finish. Compellingly aromatic, information technology offers aromas of cedar wood, spice box, tobacco, earth, black currants, and new saddle leather. Spicy, full-bodied, and burly, with mouth-searing tannin, this big, thick vino is a terrific example of Lynch Bages fabricated in an older fashion.

Chateau Montrose, 1970

St Estephe 2eme Cru Classe

*** 92 Points Robert Parker ***

Reviews: "This is one 1970 that appears to possess the necessary components to develop into something special. Information technology remains youthfully hard and astringent, but there is no doubting the high levels of concentration and intensity. Moreover, the vino exhibits a classy, complex boutonniere, offer upwards scents of cedar, black fruits, minerals, and leather. Full-bodied, powerful, and rich, with outstanding concentration, this wine requires another 7-x years of cellaring - tin y'all believe that? Information technology is unquestionably a 40-50-year wine" PArker Vino Abet 1996

"A knockout canteen when beginning tasted in March 2001, when information technology had a complex, black dusty nose and an ultra-dense, backward, masculine palate.

Nose retained some black fruit, healthy and concentrated. In the mouth it was exquisite, a fine mature Bordeaux with sweetness, lenght, concentration and skilful length. Thorougly enjoyable and not tired in the least!" Cellar tracker.com Deep mature colour. Amazingly good nose. Stables, leather, smoke, common salt/mineral, cassis, tobacco and pencil/graphite. Stringent, lots of tannins, but still fruit that stand to the tannins. On the palate this vino offers leather, coffee, tobacco, meat and claret. Quite light trunk, but very dainty mouthfill and the stop is quite long - 25 to 30 sec. " cellartracker.

Lovely color, mature simply lively appearance; clean nose, lovely vinous warmth, cassis and cedar and mint, classic Pauillac; lovely and lively palate, cassis flavours, complete for a 1969, lively acerbity in cheque; clean and dry out finish, adept length. Much better than the canteen from the same cellar tasted 10 years ago. Rating applies to the get-go 15 minutes afterwards opening, loses its definition very apace after that.
